Where kids discover the joy and power of creativity…
This blog chronicles a free after-school program for 4th & 5th grade kids in Escondido, California.
Using a wide variety of paper we had on hand, a whole punch, yarn, telephone wire and beads, the kids made their own journals today. The pages inside were all different colors and sizes.
Using the cereal boxes, shoe boxes, tissue tubes, telephone wire and anything else they could find, the kids worked in teams to build forts. (Leo, Jonathan and Jose had painted all the boxes with gesso, last week.) First a discussion of structure Assembly begins "I'm sure we can work these huge wooden poles somewhere into our fort." Adding details and architectural elements Certainly plenty of materials available. Painting Leo handled any glue gun requests.
This would be a cupcake house. Cupcake shaped, cupcake landscape, cupcake doorknob.
Some forts from Tuesday's class and every fort needs a functional canon.
