After a short visit from Scruffy--The kids painted their papier mache and then created a story book about the character. I encouraged the kids to include an 'About the Author' page, which were all pretty funny and quite confident!

Gazelles, houses, bowls, tanks, and ducks, among other things were created by the kids today. Lots of creative problem solving in construction!

Sarah's last day and Papier Mache

Sarah, my assistant, is leaving Mundo Lindo for a new exciting job. She'll be missed! The kids made her a card and here's a group photo--take two.
We made papier mache (with heavy duty foil, newspaper and liquid starch.) The kids will paint them next week and write a story about their character.

Art Reception Awards

Kelly, from ECM, presented awards to some of the Mundo Lindo kids. Escondido Art Association also presented awards and some of the kids got those too. Sarah presented a special creativity award to Jonathan.

art class or animal planet?

Ten kids in class today and 2 visiting pets! Fabio the rabbit and Sally, the weiner dog/chihuahau. The kids enjoyed the African symbol project and so did Fabio!

Adinkra Symbols of West Africa

Ten kids today. We used grocery store paper bags for our surface, and they selected the symbols they wanted to depict from this cool handout of Andinkra Symbols. They drew them in pencil, then marker, then oil pastels. Then we crinkled the paper up and ironed it to make it look old.
