tuesday's class

Eleven kids in class today. Hard to believe it's the last week of the first 8 week session. Kids can sign up for the next 8-week session right now.
Today we outlined their bodies on paper, then, using the ECM ethnic costumes as inspiration, created clothes for their image.

future architect

See the creature with the orange feathers in front? That's a tiger. And he's building a trophy for "best tiger."

Thursday class

Thirteen kids in class today. Each made a coil or pinch pot, like the Kumeyaay indians did, and then they could make what they wanted. They really enjoyed working in clay!

writing and clay

They're writing a story about what they created.

writing about her clay

After the kids finished making things with clay, they wrote and illustrated a story about one of the pieces in the little books we made at the beginning of class. She's writing about giving her mom the vase she made, and how happy her mom will be.

red clay july 24

I forgot my camera today, for class, so here's a photo of what I made from red clay that air dries. I told the kids about the Kumeyaay indians (many already knew of them) and we talked about clay and the types of vessels the indians made. I showed them how to make a pinch pot and a coil pot. After they made one of those, I encouraged them to make an animal from the clay. They made rabbits, mice, angels, turtles, a dog, a dragon and tinkerbell. Eleven kids today.

Thursday class

Sixteen kids today and I didn't get time to take many pics. You can see a high heel shoe, a piece of pepperoni pizza, and a vase.

Papier Mache Thursday

Here's a darling little dog, ready for the color tissue. Also in today's class we had a papier mache boat, a strawberry, a heart, a turtle, a soccer player, bowls, a plate, a hummingbird, cockatoo and a pickle!

Thursday's class

Fifteen kids in class today. Art Quilts was the project.
Drawing, then painting on cotton canvas.

Garden view

When it's not too hot, we have the classes on the patio. It's really a wonderful setting! There are big shade canopies over the tables where the kids are working.

Sewing

The girls are very intent on sewing their art quilts.

Proud artists!
