Scratch board
My wonderful friend, Susie Clark, came to help Marcy and I. It was Susie who showed me the idea for this project using gold and silver scratch board.
The kids drew out their designs on paper first, doing a face/mask and a border.
They placed the paper drawing over the scratch board, and with a ball point pen, traced the image onto the scratch board. Then, with a sharp pointed dip pen (with no ink) they scratched in the design.
It was focused, concentrated work, so the last 15 minutes, they really enjoyed running around our back garden area!

The Book of Me
Don't try this at home! Collage with magazines is the best, but you need room to spread out.
We traced the kids profiles, and then they cut them from cereal boxes to create book covers.
They cut pages from different colors of construction paper. Since, they were creating a "Book of Me" they cut out images that represented them..or stuff they liked...or colors...or whatever, and collaged inside the book.
Notice the giraffe?
CUPCAKE break!

Painting on location
It was a beautiful day, so the kids and I spent time on the grounds of California Center for the Arts, Escondido, where our Mundo Lindo classes are held.
These are mosaics by artist Niki de Saint Phalle, and they were made to climb on and admire.
I showed them how to draw and then paint in watercolor.
Cris drew Javier! |
Thanks to Tracie Lyn Huskamp for donating the fabulous watercolor journals. They were perfect to use outside! and the kids were really appreciative! |
Energy was still high, so we held a paper airplane competition.
The three finalists.........
The winner!
